Website Design Questions

How much does a website cost?

My first impulse is to answer this with another question, "How long is a piece of string?" Seriously though, there are quite a few factors to consider when calculating an estimate. A few of these factors can include how many pages your site will have, the graphics work involved, and what interactive or other features you would like on your site. You will also need domain name registration and hosting which are third-party costs. See the Design Info Sheet to get an idea of the basic price structure.

How long does it take to build a website?

The overall time frame would be determined by the size of your website, the complexity of your site design, and the number of other sites I have concurrently under development. In general, a basic website built from scratch can be ready for release within 4-6 weeks.

Will we need to have a meeting in connection with the website design?

In the majority of cases a meeting isn't a necessity and I can generally complete most websites solely with contact via email and telephone. During the design process, I post a proposed site design onto a private site on the web where only yourselves and I can view the content. We can then discuss the site design and I can make any changes in order that the website design and functionality reflect what you have in mind.

Do you redesign existing websites?

Absolutely! Praxis Web Design can give your site a simple facelift, freshening up the overall style of your site, or I can do a complete redesign to give your site an entirely new image. Can I use my own web hosting and have you build my website?

Yes! Although I can register your domain name, set up hosting, or transfer your existing domain, you are always free to use any web host you like. If you choose to manage your own hosting, once your website has been completed you will need to provide me with your web hosting ftp login information when the time comes for me to upload your website, or alternately I can send you the completed files if you wish to upload them yourself.

Website Content - What do I put on my site?

That would depend on the goals of your website. For example if you run a business website you would include as much information about your products or services that your customers would need to purchase from you. If you are an artist, you would want to provide examples of your work and information about where to view it and/or how to purchase. This Design Info Sheet has been assembled as a handy guide.

Management Services Questions

Once my website is complete do you offer any site maintenance services?

Full support is available for any website I design free for 30 days after completion and I am always available should you encounter any problems or require any enhancements. A variety of management services are available (see Service Info Sheet). Some clients prefer to maintain their own website, but just need some help getting it set up. If you wish to maintain your own website, it can be built using one of many available CMS (Content Management System) products, such as Wordpress or SilverStripe to streamline the maintenance process.

Is my website tied to Praxis Web Design forever, or can I have someone else perform maintenance etc?

No strings attached! Once your website design has been completed, I send you a copy of the website on CD. This copy of your website is for your retention. Once your website is designed it belongs to you and you can commission anyone to update or manage it for you - although of course I would hope you are satisfied with Praxis Web Design and continue with me for your website needs. And of course you may move your website to another web hosting service at any time.

I need someone to manage my domain, or add/delete email accounts to my domain. Can you do this for me?

General Questions

Do you offer any type of discounts?

Yes, Praxis Web Design offer discounts for state-funded schools and non-profit organizations. Contact Praxis Web Design for more information.

Why can't I find my website in the search engines?

Once your site has been published, Praxis Web Design then submits it to the relevant search engines and web directories. It may then require several weeks, or even months for them to actually spider and index your website in their directory. How fast your site is listed depends on each individual search engine's indexing update schedule. Keep an eye on your server traffic logs for visiting spiders. Although Praxis Web Design includes SEO (Search Engine Optimization) enhancements with every website, there is no way to guarantee a high search engine ranking.
